How to fix Canon B504 error



Before we get into finding solutions for the Canon B504 error, it is important that we know what it means. This kind of error is essentially involved with ink cartridges in the printer. This is caused when there is some improper setting of the ink tanks. Your ink tanks might be filled with ink or on the verge of ending but not so much that it will stop the printing process entirely. The supply of ink is facing an obstruction, might be for any possible reason. For this issue, your printer shows a Canon B504 error. 


Fix Canon B504 error


To fix the error by removing empty cartridges, follow these steps. 

  1. It is best to solve this problem while the power is turned off from the plug point button printer power being turned on.

  2. Try to move the printhead tray to a position where you can remove the cartridges. If it is not in such a position. Switch on the printer to bring it to the front.

  3. Press on the side of the cartridge holder to release it and remove it.

  4. Replace the old ones with new cartridges and fix them up similar to the process of removing. Then fix the printhead tray and switch on the printer.

  5. The printer will run a few test prints and is most likely to work fine. 


Fix the Canon B504 error by a reset. A printer reset is going to solve all issues all at once for the printer.

  1. To reset the printer, turn the power off from the printer first.

  2. Then hold the stop button and then simultaneously click the power button.

  3. Hold on to the power button and let the stop button go. Then while holding on to the power button, press on the stop button five times consecutively. 

  4. Then release both the buttons. You will find that the printer screen goes blank and some mechanical sounds from it. Wait till the noises stop.

  5. Restart the printer with the power off and on button. You will have to reconnect the printer to your computer since it has been reset. This reconnecting process will be easier as the computer already can find the printer saved.


The Canon B504 error can be caused due to duplicate cartridges used. There are some points to keep in mind.

  • Use only original Canon ink cartridges for your Canon printer. Using others can cause problems in the setting of the cartridge in the tray. Thus issues like such will occur more often.

  • Make sure that your ink tanks are filled and do not run out while printing. There is a scale that shows the measurement of ink available. 

  • The attachment and removal of cartridges should be done when the power is off. If not done so, the printer might start printing and that will create a mess.
